ALS San Diego Walk

Witt Wolfpack

Welcome to our Witt Wolfpack team page!

Many of you are familiar with our family's journey with ALS. Todd was diagnosed with limb onset ALS three years ago in July 2021. He first noticed symptoms in his arms and shoulders when he had difficulty lifting bags into the overhead bin on the airplane. After many doctor's appointments and finally ending up in neurology, Todd received the termial diagnosis of ALS. Our family was absolutely gutted with grief. We knew absolutely nothing about ALS and as Todd likes to joke, he can barely even spell ALS. (ALS may have stolen Todd's muscles but it sure won't take away his sense of humor!) We are so lucky to be surrounded by family and friends who have picked us up, given us strength and hope, and have provided the support to not let ALS beat us down. #letsdowitt!

And so, in September 2021, the Witt Wolfpack was born. Our Pack has raised over $350,000 the past three years through various personal fundraising events, incredibly generous donations from family and friends (and people we don't even know!) and through the San Diego ALS Walk. The best part? The money we raise stays right here in San Diego and helps over 200 families living with ALS just like ours. We have directly felt the impact of your donations personally, especially this past year, with much needed equipment that Todd has needed as he adjusts to each new phase of ALS. Think walker, wheelchair, recliner, shower chair - all thanks to YOU!

Another amazing thing our Wolfpack has done is spread much needed ALS awareness. Here are some ALS facts for you to keep sharing:
*Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe.
* The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
*ALS can strike anyone regardless of age, gender, nationality, or ethnicity, although it is primarily an adult-onset disease.
*Currently there is no known cause of the disease and can cost up to $250,000 a year to provide the care that people living with ALS and their families need.

So let's keep the momentum going! Being a part of ALS San Diego's ALS Walk is the number one way to unite and fundraise for those living with ALS. Please consider donating to the Witt Wolfpack walk team to help fund resources and services to the local San Diego ALS community, help find new ALS treatments, and move us closer to a world without this disease.

Please feel free to send this page to any friend or family member who might be interested in donating. And don't forgot to follow us on Instagram @witt_wolfpack and tag us. Thank you!

We love you, Wolfpack Nation!
