I met Aaron Friedman six years ago at the Gorge concert venue on the Columbia River in Washington State. We were settling into preparing dinner on grills the night before the first of two Dead and Company shows. 

Two years ago Julie and I had made plans to get out to California for a vacation and were planning on visiting Aaron and his wife Lisa.
That’s when he shared the news of the ALS diagnosis he had just received.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone regardless of age, gender, nationality, or ethnicity, although it is primarily an adult-onset disease. Currently there is no known cause or cure.

 

I will be traveling to San Diego this September to be a part of ALS San Diego's Walk and fundraise for those living with ALS. Please consider supporting my efforts by donating through my fundraising page.
